Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Where rejuvenation is required for the skin around the eyes, cheeks, jawline, nasolabial folds, neck, décolletage, back of the hands or for acne scarring, we sometimes recommend platelet-rich plasma therapy (sometimes known as a ‘vampire facial’).

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a fluid component of the blood with a high concentration of platelets. When these break down, they release cytokinines which have healing properties for bones and soft tissues. They are used in orthopaedics, cardiology and urology.

In the aesthetics industry, platelet-rich plasma is obtained by taking blood, which is then injected into the skin where rejuvenation is required, improving the texture and look of the skin.

The procedure takes, on average, 45 to 50 minutes, but could be longer depending on the area being treated.

We recommend four to six treatments at intervals of four to six weeks. Top-up treatments may be required at around six to seven months.

A local anaesthetic cream can be used if your skin is sensitive. Some clients may experience swelling and/or redness in the treated areas for a week or so; others can return to normal activities immediately.
